As a contribution to this work, an example of groundwater sampling quality control has been elaborated that shows the principles, statistical methods and benefits of sampling validation and quality control. Furthermore, the example has been prepared as summary text for use in quality assurance in groundwater monitoring according to the EU Groundwater Directive.

The most simple estimate of sampling uncertainty can be done using range statistics based upon duplicate sampling, subsampling and measurements. The methods are explained in the above mentioned example and a simple example spread sheet can be downloaded as basis for adaptation to your data set.

Estimation of sampling uncertainty can also be done using ANOVA statistics. A speadsheet has been prepared that allows you to do the ANOVA calculations in Excell.
